National Arts & Humanitites Month logo ACSO joins thousands of arts organizations and communities across the nation to recognize October as National Arts & Humanities Month (NAHM). NAHM is coordinated by Americans for the Arts, the national organization working to empower communities with the resources and support necessary to provide access to all of the arts for all of the people. It is a coast-to-coast collective recognition of the importance of art and culture in America during the month of October with goals of:

FOCUSING on equitable access to the arts at local, state, and national levels;
ENCOURAGING individuals, organizations, and diverse communities to participate in the arts;
ALLOWING governments and businesses to show their support of the arts; and
RAISING public awareness about the role the arts and humanities play in our communities and lives.

ACSO is participating in NAHM by celebrating and amplifying the below list of 40 of our orchestra members that are participating in the upcoming California Festival: A Celebration of New Music from Nov 3-19. Throughout the month of October, we will highlight the concerts that are part of the Festival by these 40 organizations on our Facebook and Instagram pages, so be sure to follow us!

ACSO is proud to be a partner of the California Festival. It is the first statewide music initiative of its kind, showcasing the most compelling and forward-looking voices in performances of works written in the past five years. One hundred music organizations will be featuring 180+ new works by 140+ composers in a two-week period, celebrating the collaborative and innovative spirit that thrives in California. “We encourage all of our members to participate and designate their October programs in the name of National Arts & Humanities Month,” said Sarah Weber, ACSO executive director. “NAHM has become the country’s largest annual collective celebration of the arts and humanities and helps to demonstrate the power and impact of the arts in improving the lives of Americans throughout the country. We also encourage broad attendance at the many concerts that are part of the California Festival. Our participating members alone are mounting nearly 80 concerts throughout the state. No matter what corner of California you call home, you will be able to find a piece of new music to be inspired by during the Festival."
