American Youth Symphony named Isabel Thiroux as Executive Director, after filling the roll of interim for a year. 

 

Apple Music launched Apple Classical – a streaming music app dedicated to classical music – in March 2023. Ten of the field’s highest-profile institutions partnered with Apple for the new app, including San Francisco Symphony, New York Philharmonic, and the Chicago Symphony 

 

California Symphony named Saad Haddad as its 11th Young American Composer-in-Residence for 2023 – 2026. 

 

The RuMBa Foundation of Long Beach pledged $540,000 to fund Long Beach Symphony Family Concerts through 2027. 

 

The Los Angeles Philharmonic announced that Music Director Gustavo Dudamel will be taking the position of Music and Artistic Director of the New York Philharmonic at the beginning of the 2026 – 2027 season. 

LA Phil CEO Chad Smith will become President and CEO of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in the fall of 2023. Daniel Song, the orchestra’s Chief Operating Officer, has been named as interim Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer.

 

Claire Pelley was named Director of Chico Performances & North State Symphony. 

 

Rhiannon Giddens, Artistic Director of the Ojai Music Festival, and Michael Abels, Composer, won the 2023 Pulitzer Prize for Music for their opera “Omar”. 

 

Pacific Symphony announced the appointment of new Principal Pops Conductor, Enrico Lopez-Yañez. 

Dana Long was named Vice President of Marketing & Communications of Pacific Symphony.

 

Pasadena Symphony & POPS Chief Executive Officer Lora Unger accepted the position of Executive Director of the Performing Arts Center Eastside (PACE) in Bellevue Washington. 

 

The Reno Philharmonic announced its second largest gift in the history of the organization from the estate of Rosemary Rice. 

 

The Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera named Ari Pelto as Artistic Advisor and Principal Conductor. 

 

The San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra was presented with “Outstanding Community Partner Award” by the San Bernardino City Unified School District. 

Raphaela Lacerda was appointed as Assistant Conductor of the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra.

 

The Santa Rosa Symphony announced J. Andrew Bradford as its new President and CEO. 

 

Stockton Symphony CEO, Phillip West passed away in February of 2023. 

 

The San Luis Obispo Symphony announced Rachel Cementina as new Executive Director.
