Individuals

The Santa Rosa Symphony appointed five new board members; Corinne Antipa (Musician Representative), Liz Bippart (League Representative), Mark Dierkhising, Jack Dupre and Joe Smith. Additionally, board member Garth Bixler has been elected as Secretary.

The Ojai Music Festival announced that Jamie Bennett will step down as President and CEO and transition to a Festival Board Member. They also announced new board members Olin Barrett and Cheree Edwards and appointed Ara Guzelimian as the Artistic and Executive director, adding the responsibilities of that position to his previously announced appointment as Artistic Director.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic announced the appointments of harpist Emmanuel Ceysson and librarians Benjamin Picard and KT Somero.

The Los Angeles Orchestra Fellowship announced its 2020 Diversity Fellowship Recipients, Wilfred Farquharson (viola), Malik Taylor (horn), Myles Yeazell (cello) and Jay Julio Laureta (viola).

Richard Lonsdorf was named the interim executive director of the New Century Chamber Orchestra.

The Santa Barbara Symphony appointed Kristine Pacheco-Bernt as the Director of Music Education.

The San Luis Obispo Symphony announced the appoint of Anna James Miller as Executive Director.

The Conejo Valley Youth Orchestra announced that conductor Karen Sanchez is retiring and will be replaced with associate conductor, Rebecca Tseitlin. Furthermore, former Artistic Director, Bill Benson, will take the position of Director Emeritus, with  Alexander Tseitlin taking the new director role.

Dr. Amy Williams, former Managing Director of Camerata Pacific, joined the Savannah Philharmonic as Executive Director.

The Fresno Philharmonic, Monterey Symphony, Pacific Symphony and San Jose Chamber Orchestra have commissioned Alone Together, a new work by John Christopher Wineglass. The work, which has an anticipated length of eight minutes and 46 seconds and will address issues presented by the current pandemic and systemic racism, will be premiered by each orchestra on dates to be announced.

Organizations

Disney’s live-action team is assembling a new movie for Disney+ that would center on the Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles and its founder, artistic director, and longtime conductor Charles Dickerson III.

The Santa Barbara Symphony and Westmont College announced a strategic partnership to strengthen their ability to bring music education to local school children while creating a pipeline to provide life long musical opportunities in the community. This collaboration includes newly developed innovative virtual and socially distanced curriculum.
