Raise Your Voice for the Arts! Arts Advocacy in California - April 14 & 15

Event postponements and update from Californians for the Arts as of March 12, 2020:

Out of an abundance of caution and to align with current public health recommendations regarding COVID-19, we’ve made the difficult decision to postpone the ACCM 2020 Convening on April 14, 2020 to the Fall in Sacramento and produce a Virtual Arts Advocacy Day on April 15, 2020.  If you believe the arts, culture, and creative sectors should have a say in our local, county and state government policies, funding and legislation, then join ACSO, Californians for the Arts, and our arts colleagues from around the state during April for Arts, Culture & Creativity Month 2020, and then head to Sacramento with us for the ACCM Convening on April 14 and Arts Advocacy Day on April 15.

ACSO is a sponsor and participant and we encourage all our members to get involved. We would like to see a strong orchestra presence in Sacramento in April. AB 5 has revealed that we need to better work together as a sector, we need strengthen our support for our arts advocates, we need to increase our understanding about how to be advocates, and we need to continue to speak up for ourselves and for the impact that we know we make in our communities around the state. Arts, Culture & Creativity Month, the ACCM Convening, and Arts Advocacy Day are great opportunities to do just that.

April - Arts, Culture & Creativity Month Ways To Engage

In 2019, Arts Culture and Creativity Month was declared by the California Senate in a concurrent resolution to be every April in California to recognize and celebrate the significant impact the arts have in California. Activations occur throughout the state including city and county proclamations, op-eds, special events, performances, round tables and more. The goal of this month-long campaign is to elevate public awareness of the value of the arts and the collective impact the arts bring to our communities and state.

April 14 - Roaring into 2020: The ACCM Convening, The Atrium 916, Sacramento

ACCM Convening 2020 brings together a cross-sector representation of high level thought leaders, creators and strategists in a one day “roll up our sleeves” series of work sessions to develop statewide arts and culture policies, advocacy plans to increase public and private funding, and professional development to address recent legislation and organizational management. Your voice is valued and is needed for the discussion, your thoughts are important and must be part of a statewide agenda, your presence is as important as anything else, and we welcome you to come join us to create the path for the future of the arts in our state!

April 15 - Arts Advocacy Day, CA State Capital, Sacramento

Join hundreds of delegates on Wednesday, April 15th in advocacy for a morning rally with performers and speakers. Then exercise your advocacy muscle and meet with your elected officials to share stories and data on the impact arts have in their districts. Advocate for increased funding and pro arts and culture legislation.
