Up & Down the Scale: November 2022 to January 2023

This edition of Up & Down the Scale covers orchestra administrative announcements made from November 2022 to January 2023. Berkeley Symphony welcomed five new musicians to its core orchestra for the 2022-23 season. New musicians include Principal Oboist Ben Brogadir, violinists Isabella Amador, Julia Churchill, and Sarah Elert, and Assistant Principal Second Violinist Mijung Kim. In addition, they announced the appointment of two new Board Members: Shikiri Hightower-Gaskin and Rigel Robinson. 

Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music announced that Ellen Primack will step down as Executive Director after the 2023 season after 32 years leading the festival.

California Youth Symphony announced that Anthony Lanzino will serve as Interim Wind Ensembles Director through June 4, 2023. 

Las Vegas Philharmonic announced that Music Director Donato Cabrera will celebrate his tenth and final season with the orchestra during the 2023-24 season.

Los Angeles Philharmonic Association announced the re-election of Thomas L. Beckmen as Chair of its Board of Directors and the election of five additional board members who joined over the past 10 months: Nancy Abell, Winnie Kho, Andy Park, Geoffrey Rich and Regina Weingarten. In addition, tGlenn Briffa has joined as the new Chief Financial Officer. 

Shelly Surh stepped down as Executive Director of the Napa Valley Youth Symphony, and Silvia Regalado-Zachold has been named the new Executive Director. 

Pacific Symphony announced Arthur Ong as its new Board Chair. 

San Diego Youth Symphony’s Opus Project launched new sites at Central Elementary School and Pepper Drive Elementary School, helping to spread access to music education to over 70 students. 

San Francisco Symphony's Youth Orchestra celebrates its 40th anniversary this year during the 2022-23 season. 

Santa Barbara Symphony appointed Amy Tatum as principal flute. 

Sequoia Symphony Orchestra welcomed new Executive Director Marina Rojas. 

Vallejo Symphony announced the appointment of Roman Fukshansky as the new Executive Director.
