Governance Seminar: Building Board Champions for Your Orchestra

Event Postponement and update from the League of American Orchestras as of March 11, 2020:

This event has been rescheduled due to concerns of health and safety of everyone involved. Our decision to reschedule has been based on our understanding of the stringent policies and guidelines for "social distancing" put in place by the Mayor of San Francisco and their Department of Health, the guidance we are receiving from the Centers for Disease Control concerning travel and large group gatherings, and our conversations with seminar registrants.

This event will now be offered as a Pre-Conference Seminar prior to the League’s National Conference in Minneapolis-St. Paul. The new date and location are Wednesday, June 10, 2020 from 8:00am to 12:00pm at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis.

Please note that you are not required to register for Conference in order to register for and attend the Pre-Conference Seminar.

Current registrants have two options:
1. Transfer your San Francisco Board Governance Seminar registration to the Pre-Conference Seminar in Minneapolis-St. Paul or
2. Receive a refund of your registration fee.

Please contact Member Services at [email protected] to let us know which option you would prefer.

If you have not yet registered for this seminar and would like to attend, you can register for it on the League’s National Conference website.

Join the League of American Orchestras in collaboration with the Association of California Symphony Orchestras for an engaging, interactive governance session called "Building Board Champions for Your Orchestra," led by board consultant Susan Howlett.

Thursday, April 16, 2020, 9:30am to 2:00pm (lunch provided)

The Clift Royal Sonesta Hotel

495 Geary Street
San Francisco, CA 94102

We ask our board members to be ambassadors on behalf of our orchestras, but they often feel ill-equipped to comply because they don't know whom to prioritize, what to say to or do with them, or what difference it is supposed to make.

Susan will present research-based solutions and helpful tips for setting board members up for success. Participants will walk away with concrete steps that any board member can comfortably take to become a powerful champion for your orchestra, resulting in a wider audience, more allies, and more money (without even asking)!

Lunch is included. After the seminar, participants are invited to stay for an Artistic Leadership Conversation and a reception with the League's board of directors.

Get more information about the seminar and register here.
